Plastic-Free and BPA-Free Popsicle Molds Review

One of our favorite uses for Little Me Tea is in frozen treats almost any time of year. But obviously, we can’t be putting all those healthy vitamins in BPA, right? In our quest to find fun molds and test a myriad of recipes, we have put in the time to test a lot of different BPA-free molds. Tip: once the pops have frozen, take them out of the bases and stick them into the corners of the freezer where they don’t take up so much room.

Tovolo

Tovolo has a wide variety of sizes and styles to choose from.  All are BPA-Free and clever, which is half the battle in getting kids to choose homemade over the ice cream truck. They are all dishwasher safe and durable, and they do make a couple of designs sized for really young teethers or toddlers. Our favorites are the ice cream pops (pictured), Jewel Pop Molds and Rocket Pop Molds. Definitely makes eating healthy a lot more fun.

KinderVille

The Little Bites Ice Pop molds  have a great design for little hands, and we find them less messy. Think more of a pushup than a popsicle on a stick. Since they are plastic-free, made from silicone, these are as eco-friendly as it gets. Dishwasher safe. The only down side to these is that they only hold 3.5 ounces, so while the lack-of-mess factor is big plus for the car, you might have to get a couple of sets to be sure you have enough treats, especially for bigger kids.

Orka by Mastrad

Mastrad’s Orka brand has a few silicone (naturally BPA-free) frozen treat options. The carousel  the Okra 4-Orca Pops mold is our favorite.  The easy to fill and carry popsicle carousel is wonderful if you have kids that want to help create their own pops.  The handles have a fairly deep catch tray for spills. In general, you shouldn’t have to run silicone under hot water to loosen the pops, and these have a five-year warranty.

Onyx Containers

Another plastic-free option is stainless steel. The Onyx 6-individual mold tray is made from high quality 18/8 stainless steel and is dishwasher safe.   Because of the rigidity of the material, Onyx offers just one style of popsicle mold but the classic rocket-shaped design and handy storage tray are kind of futuristic. Our mold uses bamboo sticks, but we’ve heard you can find reusable sticks, which would be a better option.
